Rohtang tunnel in Himachal Pradesh named as Atal tunnel.


The Union Cabinet has decided to name the Rohtang Tunnel under Rohtang Pass after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The Atal Tunnel, also known as the Rohtang Tunnel, is a highway tunnel constructed beneath the Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas along the Leh-Manali Highway in Himachal Pradesh, India. Spanning 9.02 km, it holds the record as the world's longest highway single-tube tunnel above 10,000 feet (3,048 m) upon completion and is named in honor of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a former Prime Minister of India.


A significant number of tourists visit Ladakh via this highway. After touring the Atal Tunnel, visitors have the option to return to Manali using the same route through Dhundi and Solang Valley, or they can choose to visit the Rohtang Pass and then return to Manali via Marhi, Gulaba, and Kothi.

It is associated with Ram. According to legend, here he came on the advice of sage Vasishtha to do penance for killing Ravana. the king of Lanka. There are scores of ancient temples and ashrams affording spiritual solace to pilgrims, the important among them being temple of Bharata Pushkar temple, Shatrughan temple, Lahkhsmana temple, Geeta Bhawan and the Punjab Kshetra. Rishikesh, also known as the “place of sagas” is a spiritual town situated 24 kms upstream from Haridwar, at the confluence of the Chandrabhaga and Ganga. It is believed that God by the name of “Hrishikesh” had appeared as an answer to the hard penances by Rabhiya Rishi and henceforth the place derived its name. It is the starting point for the Char Dham pilgrimage and an ideal destination not only for pilgrims but also for the people who are interested in medtation, yoga and other aspects of Hinduism. For the adventure seekers, Rishikesh is the suggested place for starting their trekking expeditions to the Himalayan peaks and for rafting. Also, International Yoga week which attracts participation from across the world, is held here, every year, in February on the banks of the Ganga.

Mahableshwar is the best hill station of Maharashtra. It is situated about 4500 ft. above sea level on the Sahyadri spurs. It was the erstwhile summer capital of Old Bombay Presidency. The tourists are enthralled by its exotic greenery, beautiful gardens & breath-taking scenery. Numerous majestic mansions built during the British days still stand as monuments of the Raj. The favorite season for visiting is from March to June.It is well connected by roads.

Islands of Lakshadweep

Lakshadweep, formerly known as the Laccadives, is a captivating group of islands situated 200–440 km (120–270 mi) off India’s west coast in the Arabian Sea.



Lakshadweep, the group of 36 islands is known for its exotic and sun-kissed beaches and lush green landscape. The name Lakshadweep in Malayalam and Sanskrit means ‘a hundred thousand islands’. ”


India’s smallest Union Territory Lakshadweep is an archipelago consisting of 36 islands with an area of 32 sq km. It is a uni-district Union Territory and comprises of 12 atolls, three reefs, five submerged banks and ten inhabited islands. The islands have a total area of 32 sq km. The capital is Kavaratti and it is also the principal town of the UT. All Islands are 220 to 440 km away from the coastal city of Kochi in Kerala, in the emerald Arabian Sea. The natural landscapes, the sandy beaches, abundance of flora and fauna and the absence of a rushed lifestyle enhance the mystique of Lakshadweep.


Only BSNL and Airtel provides telecommunication services to Lakshadweep Islands. BSNL provides connectivity in all 10 inhabited islands where as Airtel provides connectivity to Kavaratti and Agatti islands.


The entry to Lakshadweep islands is restricted. One requires an entry permit issued by Lakshadweep Administration to visit these islands.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands form a captivating union territory of India, located in the Bay of Bengal.


The history of the Andaman and Nicobar Starts from the Ramayana period.In the Ramayana period it was called as Handuman, As time passes away this place was renamed. In the 1st Century this place was called as Agadaemon Angademan according to Ptolemy. Travellers from different parts of the world visited this place. Arab Travellers visited on 19th Century, Marco Polo visited in 13 th century who describes this place as Angamanian, Friar Odoric in 14th Century, Caesar Fredericke in 16th Century. In the 17th century Lieutenant Archibald Blair of the Royal Indian Navy founded a naval base on a small island adjoining south Andaman merely by clearing forests, setting up cottages, and planting kitchen gardens and orchards. Even so, the base marked the arrival of civilization, of human control over the vegetative wild.

Pahalgam, also known as Pahalgom in Kashmiri (which means “village of shepherds”), is a picturesque town located in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, India.

Wayanad, located in the northeast of Kerala state, has its administrative headquarters in the municipality of Kalpetta. Established on November 1st, 1980, Wayanad District became the 12th district of Kerala, comprising the Taluks of Mananthavady, Sulthanbathery, and Vythiri. The name "Wayanad" originates from "Vayal Nadu," signifying the region of paddy fields. Kohima is the capital of Nagaland, lies nestled in the Naga Hills of northeastern India. Here are some key points about this


Kohima, situated in the south at an altitude of 1444m above sea level, occupies pride of place as the capital city of Nagaland. Sharing its borders with Dimapur and Peren District in the West, Zunheboto and Phek District in the East, Manipur State in the South and Tseminyu District in the North. One of the oldest among the eleven districts of the state, Kohima is the first seat of modern administration as the Headquarters of Naga Hills District (then under Assam). When Nagaland became a full fledged state on 1st December, 1963, Kohima was christened as the capital of the state. Since then, parts of Kohima district have been carved out four times – the first in 1973 when Phek District was created, then in 1998 Dimapur was carved out and declared as a separate district. In 2004, Peren District was created and it was for the fourth time that Kohima district once again gave birth to one of the youngest districts in the state called Tseminyu District in the year 2021.


The name Kohima derives its name from “KEWHIRA” which is the name of the village where Kohima town is located. Kohima village , also called ‘Bara Basti’ is the second largest village in Asia and forms the North-Eastern part of Kohima Urban area today.
